The scheduled as attached to the report of Auditor-General reveals that the Hospital has not paid a dime of PAYE tax for the four- year period under review. An whopping sum of N364,583,857.00 is being owed to the state government as personal income tax is COOUTH staff.
Deduction of taxes and refusal to remit same to the appropriate authorities constitute serious breach of extant laws and regulations which can attract grievous consequences on the part of the defaulter. The chief medical director, and the director of accounts should as a matter of urgency, commence the immediate remittance of this huge sum and documented evidence of such remittances forward to me for further verification.
From the attached schedule, PAYE for December, 2019 is nil because it was not deducted for reasons best known to the hospital management.
The hospital should therefore, calculate the staff PAYE for the month of December, 2019 and add the amount to the total unremitted PAYE of N364,583,857 for onward remittance to the appropriate tax authority, otherwise evidence of non-payment of staff salary for the month in question (December, 2019) should be forwarded to the Auditor-General for verification.
