It was observed that the sum of N31,847,997.78 had remained in the Zenith Bank account of the ministry (with the number 1011529368) for as far back as 2019. No transactions had been carried out in the bank account since July 2019 and it has become dormant.
It was not established why such a huge amount of money had been lying idle for over three years and was not remitted back to state treasury for re-appropriation. Its continued placement in the Bank benefits neither the state not citizens as it yields no interest.
The permanent secretary was thus requested to cause this account to be closed and the balances both in bank and cash remitted to the consolidated revenue fund.
