During the year under review, the audit office certified a total number of (1,885) one thousand, Eight Hundred and eighty-five number files of retired and deceased public servants including re-calculation cases. The total amount of recoveries made amounts to N112,614,454.96. The main cause of these recoveries are as a result of:
i. Over placement in steps during promotion.
ii. Over stay in service.
iii. Inability to prorate salaries on retirement.
iv. Inability to give the stipulated number of months’ notice on voluntary retirement.
Our earlier letter with Ref. PEN/S.2/II/12 of 15/6/2020 and PEN/S.2/II/13 of 16th June, 2020 addressed to the secretary, Joint Allocation Account Commission (JAAC) Government House, Awka and to the Head of Service with attention drawn to the Director Computer Center to pin-off Public Servant names from pay roll immediately they retire has not yielded any positive result. The government should install a database that would automatically pin-off retired officers’ salaries as soon as they retire to block all loopholes that dwindle Government revenue
