It was discovered in audit that the corporation has at different times purchased generator set for its succeeding managing directors as follows;
i. In payment Voucher number 588 dated 28th of July, 2015, a 45KVA sound proof generator was purchased for the then M.D. Mr. Obinwu Patrick at the cost of N2.962, 950.
ii. In payment voucher number 218 of 5th April, 2018, another sound proof KVA generator was purchased for another former M.D., Prof. Joe Asike at the cost of N3,637,000.
iii. Lastly, not quite up to a year after that, another 30KVA sound proof generator worth N3,771,231 was purchased for the present M.D. Arc. Willie Okafor through payment voucher number 22 dated 3rd March, 2019.
Interaction with the incumbent M.D on the status of the above transactions revealed that all the generating sets belong to the corporation as the initial arrangement was to buy a KVA generator for a serving MD to make his work easy which he has to hand over to his successor whenever he would leave office. Each M.D buying a KVA generator and leaving with it at no cost is viewed in audit as flagrant abuse of office.
The managing director Arc. Willie Okafor was by this requested to recover the KVA generators of their monetary equivalent from the M.Ds as mentioned above. All documentary evidences of recovery of, or payment for the generators are to be forwarded to the Auditor-General for further verification.
